Job Readiness Training FAQ

Please read the following information carefully before submitting your application.

What do we do in the Job Readiness Training?
Students selected to participate in the program are required to complete 7 weekly workshops, which will help prepare them to apply for jobs and to be successful once they get jobs. Training covers many topics such as dressing for interviews/work, developing resumes and cover letters, preparing for interviews, and communication in the workplace. We even go over personal money management and how to budget.

When is it and how long does it last?
Training is typically held on Tuesdays from 4-6 p.m., for 7 weeks in a row. See previous page for session dates. For more detailed information call 805-964-4710 ext. 4424.

Where is training held?
Hope School District Board Room: 3970 La Colina Rd, Room 1; Santa Barbara, CA 93110. (A bus stop is located across the street.)

Am I paid for going to training?
Yes. Students earn minimum wage upon completing 14 training hours.

How many workshops am I allowed to miss?
Students may not miss any workshops; therefore, a missed session must be made up before beginning the internship. If more than one session is missed, you can no longer participate in the program.

Does the program help students with transportation to training and to work?
Yes. We can provide bus passes to students who have trouble paying for them throughout the program.

How are students matched with their internships?  
Students research companies, prepare resumes and cover letters, then interview with potential internship sites, according to their career interests. Partners staff support students during this process, which occurs during the training period or just after the training period ends.

How much money will I earn?
Once hired, interns will earn minimum wage.

How many hours per week do interns typically work?
Most interns work an average of 10 hours per week, sometimes more during the summer if schedules allow.

How long do the internships last?
Interns must complete the full 80-hour term in order to receive an award during Partners in Education annual Student Awards Breakfast. Most interns complete their internships within 8-10 weeks.

How do I get my paychecks?
While on the job, interns will manage their time cards, track their hours, and be responsible for turning in time cards on due dates in order to receive paychecks. Paychecks are picked up during office hours at the Partners office twice per month.

  2. Follow the instructions in the confirmation email to complete and submit the application. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
  3. Submit your application to the Partners in Education office by 5 p.m. on the due date listed for your session. Late applications will not be considered.
